Excerpts from Carl Helgerson's moving homily

at the burial, June 13:
... Although her life was relatively short, she lived well, rejoicing in faith in Jesus Christ. And that faith carried her through youth, married life, pregnancies, motherhood, health and illness, a declining quality of life, and finally, death. But death came as a friend, delivering her from heaviness and uncertainty about her next breath, and ushering her into the bosom of her Savior, in whose love she had trusted and rejoiced so long.

... She was always humble, sweet-tempered and loving. She never spoke a harsh word about anyone; she loved her family and always spoke of you with love and pride; she loved her husband and appreciated the kindnesses he showed her as he attended to her needs, bringing foods she loved and could eat when the meals at the nursing home, good as they were, did not appeal to her. She loved the Lord and was devoted to Christ and His Word. When she was able she rejoiced in the worship of the church and to hear the preaching of God's Word. She even shared in some of the volunteer work of the church.

... may the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, watch over Eva and keep our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus.
